      Today we are going to review fractions and solve some problems using mixed numbers.

Mixed Fractions (also called "Mixed Numbers")

A Mixed Fraction is a whole number and a proper fraction combined.

such as        1 3/4     (one and three-quarters)

Examples: 2 3/8         7 1/4    1 14/15           21 4/5

See how each example is made up of a whole number and a proper fraction together? That is why it is called a "mixed" fraction (or mixed number).

We can give names to every part of a mixed fraction:

There are 3 simple steps to multiply fractions

1. Multiply the top numbers (the numerators).

2. Multiply the bottom numbers (the denominators).

3. Simplify the fraction if needed.

     Now, let’s do some tasks.

The first task is to convert mixed numbers into improper fractions (card #1)

 Then your task is to subtract mixed numbers.  (card #2)

  One more task is to add mixed fractions (card #3)
