Тема: Особливості вживання складеного підмета та складеного присудка.

We are going to learn more about a compound subject, a compound predicate and to do some tasks to improve your knowledge.
Presentation of new material
T.: Today we are going to review the topic about a sentence and learn more about parts of the sentence.
First of all, we need to review some concepts on the topic:
What is a sentence?
What parts of a sentence do you know?
T.: Any complete sentence has two main parts, called the subject and the predicate. (card #1)
A Compound Subject is a subject with two or more nouns or pronouns joined by the word and or another conjunction. Compound subjects share the same predicate.

Example:
Her shoes were covered with mud. Her ankles were covered with mud, too.
Her shoes and ankles were covered with mud.
'Her shoes and ankles' is the compound subject.
The predicate in both the sentences is 'were covered with mud.'

A Compound Predicate is a predicate with two or more verbs joined by the word and or another conjunction. Compound predicates share the same subject.

Example:
Jan jumped on her bike. Jan rode around the block.
Jan jumped on her bike and rode around the block.
The compound predicate is 'jumped on her bike and rode around the block.' The subject in both the sentences is Jan.

Compound Subject and Compound Predicate: A sentence can have a compound subject and a compound predicate.

Example:
Sue and Maria went to the mall and shopped for an hour.

2. Writing
T.: Now, let’s do some tasks. (cards #2)
1) Indicate whether the sentence has a compound subject or a compound predicate.

2) Also write at least five examples of your own.
3) Place the letter next to each of these words on the space that corresponds to their definition. (card#3)

4) Choose the option that identifies the capitalized compound part in the following sentences.

3. Speaking

Create a sentence using a simple subject or simple predicate.
Create a sentence using a complete subject or complete predicate.
